Buying your first car is a daunting task.  It is something that there isn’t really much out there that can help prepare you outside of a family member who can recount their own experience of first time car shopping.  If you’re a millennial who is in need of some first time car buying experience, here is some steps to take.

The first is to have your finances worked out.  This is important not just for first time buyers, but for car buyers all around.  Having everything ready for the dealership means to know your credit score and to know what your budget is capable of handling.  That also includes your credit score and making sure that it is accurate.  Removing errors from your credit report is important and can potentially have a big impact on your loan.

Next, plan on a down payment.  This means taking the time to save up for a good amount of money.  Putting a down payment can really go a long way in helping you get a great deal on a new or used car and help with giving you a better monthly payment.

Lastly, get an idea of what it will cost.  There is always unknown costs when it comes to buying something like a car, but if you do some research, you’ll have an idea of which cars you would like and can budget accordingly.  Know what you can afford and what you can spend to make sure you don’t put yourself in a trap you can’t afford.
