Learn More About the Jeep Active Drive II 4×4 System for Winter Driving

December 12, 2017

The recent and sudden snow storm that hit New York shows that it is time to start taking the winter weather seriously.  To help people prepare for the hazardous driving that comes from the season, FCA has released a guide to understanding the difference between all-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD).

The basic way they describe the difference between AWD and 4WD is that AWD systems are always active and the torque is automatically shared between the axles when a low-traction condition is detected.  4WD is a part-time system is turned on by the driver via controls in the driver seat.

Numerous vehicles in the Jeep and Dodge line-up have auto-engaging systems.  Examples are the Charger, Challenger and the Jeep Renegade, Compass, Grand Cherokee, and more.

To better understand how the Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system works, Jeep put together a video demonstrating it.
